                                               Kick Off Party – February 17th

            The American Cancer Society’s Second Life Relay For Life is holding it’s 2008 Kick Off Party on Sunday, February 17th at 1pm SLT at the American Cancer Society Sim to share with residents the importance of Relay For Life in saving lives from cancer and providing information on how you can participate by forming a Relay Team, or becoming a Relay Team Member in Second Life.

            Relay For Life is the signature event of the American Cancer Society and has been active, and continually growing, in Second Life for 4 years.  Last year, the Second Life Relay For Life (SLRFL) raised over $120,000.00 US dollars.  The SLRFL, itself, is a fun-filled, overnight event that unites SL individuals throughout the world to celebrate survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer.

              “Individuals who are willing to give their time and energy to this exciting event, as a volunteer or participant, have made a commitment to fight back against this disease and let the community know that you can beat cancer.”

            SLRFL Teams form in February, beginning with the 2008 Kick Off Party, and hold fund raising events in SL from March – July.  The SLRFL finishes with the Official SLRFL overnight Relay on July 19th & 20th, 2008.   Team members gather at their Team Campsites they build, walk the SLRFL Track, enjoy live music, participate in fun events, and explore the 35 Relay Sims as the event runs overnight and into the next morning.  In 2007, over 35 SLRFL Teams participated in the largest virtual fundraising walk in the world and this year the number will be even higher.

            The Second Life Relay For Life has the ability to virtually bring together friends, families, businesses, and support organizations from all over the world, all with the goal of eliminating cancer.
